Faulty heaters sold in Woolworths and Big W have been recalled due to fears they may cause electric shock or fire which raises concerns about a spate of shonky products.
The defect relates to the power plug’s pins in four portable heaters which may dislodge when the plug is removed.
The products were sold across Australia in Woolworths Supermarkets and Big W stores between March 15 and June 17 this year.
The following models are included in the recall:
Woolworths Essentials Upright Fan Heater 2000W, Model No. FH09E-B
Woolworths Essentials Oscillating Fan Heater 2000W, Model FH09F-B
Adesso Oscillating Ceramic Heater 1800W, Model No. FH102T
Contempo Oscillating Ceramic Fan Heater, Model No. FH102T
Customers are advised they can return them to their nearest store for a full refund.
Consumer advocacy group [CHOICE]( https://www.choice.com.au/about-us.aspx| target=”_blank”) says the latest recall raises more concerns about dodgy products and is urging people to check their homes for potentially unsafe products and register for the Federal Government’s free product recall alerts.
“It’s a significant concern when an everyday product such as a household heater fails. As we move into winter, households will want to have confidence that their products are safe,” says CHOICE
Head of Media Tom Godfrey.
“The sad fact is consumers can’t always count on big name brands when it comes to buying quality.[1] Last week it was Samsung washing machines bursting into flames, now it’s dodgy Woolworths heaters that could catch fire or electrocute you.”
The latest recall joins a steady stream of big brand products to be yanked from shelves this year from Nanna’s berries to BMWs to Samsung washing machines and Goodman Fielder garlic bread.
“With the number of product recalls increasing 14 per cent last year, consumers need to remain vigilant about what products they put in their homes or park in their garages,” says Mr Godfrey.
“Every time a big brand hits the headlines with a product failure it should be a reminder to check the Federal Government’s recalls website to ensure you do not have any potentially unsafe products in your home.”
According to CHOICE this latest incident is a timely reminder for consumers to check the recalls website recalls.gov.au and register for the ACCC’s free product recall alerts. CHOICE members who are struggling to obtain a refund can also access the CHOICE Help service.
