Talk about treasure from trash! A Californian electronics recycling firm is on the hunt for a woman that unknowingly donated a first-generation Apple computer worth over $200,000.
The woman donated the old computer to the firm, thinking it was scrap metal, but she didnโt stick around to find out that the desktop computer was one of the original 200 that Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ron Wayne had created in 1976.
After picking it out of a pile โ and picking their jaws up off the floor at the same time โ workers at the firm were able to sell the vintage computer to a private collector for a little over $200,000.
But donโt worry; this isnโt another one of those โperson throws away the winning lotto ticketโ stories. The firm has a policy that requires them to split 50 per cent of the sale proceeds with the donator.
Long story short: one lucky California woman is owed a check for $100,000, and doesnโt even know it yet.
The man who took the computer off her hands when she went to donate it, says she didnโt take a receipt or leave her name, but he could identify her โon sightโ.
โTo prove who she is,โ Vice President Victor Gichun told the San Jose Mercury News, โI just need to look at her.โ
So, in the next few days, California is going to experience its own โfind Cinderella using the glass slipperโ. But, instead of getting to marry a Prince, sheโll get $100,000.
Which, between us, is way better.
