Hee Kyung Choi, 34, was found lying in a pool of blood in a laneway next to her high-rise apartment in Sydney’s north around 6:30am.

Her boyfriend, June Seo, then caused a 12-hour siege with police when they arrived to investigate her death, refusing to come down from the roof of the apartment.

Seo has been charged with assault for an incident that allegedly occurred moments before Ms Choi fell from the 23rd floor apartment but has not been charged over her death.

A friend of Ms Choi told the Daily Telegraph that the couple had only just started dating and they “hardly knew each other at all”.

“We all knew at the church he was married but had not seen him for several years,” the friend told the Daily Telegraph.

Other friends said the finance worker had been intending to travel overseas with Seo.

“Last time she spoke to me she said she had something exciting to tell me,’ a friend told Daily Mail.

“She told me she met someone new and they’re planning to go on a trip together to Asia.”

Police are still unsure how Ms Choi fell from the building.

They were only able to begin their investigation on the woman’s body when they talked her partner down from the roof as his position was too risky for police.

A witness who saw the 34-year-old’s body in the laneway and called police said her blood had been smeared all around her body and over nearby walls.

“We saw blood on the wall and assumed she’d been … clambering for life,” the witness told Daily Mail.
