Woman holding child jumps in front of train in Sydney’s west

She died at the scene; the child is in a critical condition

A woman who was holding a child has died after jumping in front of a train at Harris Park station in Sydney’s west on Wednesday afternoon, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Police were called to the station around 2pm following reports of the incident.

The woman died at the scene and the young child is said to be in a critical condition at Westmead Hospital.

Some witnesses told police the child was a baby, while others suggested they may be up to four years old.

Police are preparing a report for the Coroner.
