A 25-year-old woman has been shocked to discover she was switched at birth after she went to donate blood at a clinic.
The unidentified woman, from Graz, Austria, was told she held a different blood type to both her parents and could not biologically to them – findings that were later confirmed by a DNA test.
The woman’s family is now holding the hospital where she was born accountable for the grave mistake.
According to a report by Kleine Zeitung, the two babies were mixed up between October 15 and November 20 in 1990 at the University Hospital in Graz.
The hospital has invited a total of 200 women born at the facility to take voluntary DNA tests to see if they too were switched.
Gebhard Falzberger, a director at the hospital, said: “We are making every effort, together with the affected family, to solve this case.
“If it can be proven that it was our fault, then I want to apologise to all concerned on behalf of the clinic.”
