A woman’s dead body was found in the shower of a buck’s party’s apartment in Melbourne, but the men say they were “stitched up”.
Police were called to investigate around 8am when the body was found on the 10th floor of the Oaks on Market building that was being rented out by 11 men.
It’s believed the woman, aged in her 20s, returned to the hotel room with the men on Saturday night.
The men, in town from Canberra, were questioned before four were taken into custody and released overnight.
The men refused to comment on who the deceased woman was or how they met her, but told Fairfax they’d been “stitched up”.
One of the buck’s party guests told The Herald Sun he thought the whole situation was initially “one big stitch-up … but turns out it wasn’t”.
“It sucks,” he said.
Two of the men said they’d attended an AFL game on Saturday night before making their way to popular club Cloud 9, where they were seen partying until around 2:30 – 3am.
Other women who stayed at the apartment overnight said they hadn’t heard anything suspicious until the sound of sirens at 8am.
While seven of the men, who police described as witnesses to the incident, left the hotel around 2:30pm on Sunday, the groom-to-be stayed behind.
It is believed his brother was one of the four men being held by police.
The woman is yet to be formally identified, but police say she was wearing a black long-sleeved top, blue denim shorts and white runners.
An autopsy will be performed as soon as possible and the police are working with the hotel to obtain CCTV.
