A toddler was found inside a carry-on bag on an Air France flight on Monday.
According to reports, a passenger noticed something wriggling in the bag and notified crew on an Istanbul to Paris flight. When they asked the woman to open the bag, they found the child inside.
It is believed the toddler is between one and two years old, appeared in good health and an Air France spokesman said that the child was “travelling without a ticket”.
French authorities said it was not yet clear whether the child and the woman were related but some reports are speculating the child was being smuggled to Europe by an illegal adoption ring.
An Air France spokesman said: “An investigation is under way. I can only say that the security checks are the responsibility of airports, in this case, Istanbul Ataturk.”
French authorities met the woman and child at the airport.
It’s unclear whether any charges will be filed.
