“Daddy, all I want for my birthday is for you to wake up”: Wife of nurse in coma shares message from son

39-year-old Russell Marsh remains in a coma, doctors are unable to determine what is wrong with him.

An emergency nurse from Fairfield Hospital remains on life support which he started in early February, after he was coughed on by a sick patient and admitted to hospital with acute respiratory failure and kidney failure.

While his wife, Helen Marsh, son Ronan have been standing by Russel’s bedside, his sisters-in-law have banned together, creating a GofundMe campaign.

“I have started this GoFundMe page in the hope of helping my beautiful sister Helen with medical and general expenses while her husband lays in hospital on life support,” the page explains in the opening paragraph.

“Russell is married to my sister of 20 years and both went through a hard arduous journey to conceive their now healthy 9 year-old son Ronan through IVF.”

“We are praying he makes it through this, and although he may suffer ongoing neurological issues and require ongoing mobility rehabilitation, we all want him to recover and be able to spend many more precious years with his wife and son who mean the world to him,” the page finishes.

Helen has been posting regular updated on her husband’s condition on her Facebook page.

Russell’s nine-year-old son has been very aware of what’s been happening. Helen shared in a Facebook post that her son’s only birthday wish is to have his father wake up.

“My little man will be turning 10 in a few weeks,” she posted on Facebook.

“We went to see his dad today (Thursday) and he was talking to (his dad).

“Daddy, all I want for my birthday is for you to wake up”.

“Still crying about it hours later when I think about it,” she finished.

The GoFundMe page has already surpassed its target by almost double.
