Former Woman’s Day and The Australian Women’s Weekly editor, Nene King, is in court emphatically denying that she authorised payments from her credit cards in exchange for drugs reports 9 News.

King’s one- time friend Colin Hahne is standing before the court accused of defrauding over $40,000 from the former magazine great. It is alleged he withdrew thousands from her personal accounts in 2009 and used her bank cards to pay for hotels without her permission.

For a two year period Hahne and his partner, Larry Sutcliffe, lived rent free with Ms King in Melbourne and she said she “paid for everything,” including giving them money to purchase cannabis.

Ms King admitted to have a cannabis problem which started after a difficult period in her life during which both her husband and her father died.

Ms King had a lot of money when her magazine career finished, in fact, at one point she was reportedly named as the richest woman in Australian publishing, but now she has been drained dry and in 2009 she was forced to put a $250,000 mortgage against her home and sell her shares.

Hahne pleaded not guilty to the charges and the trial continues.
