She brought Jane Austen’s classic Emma to life, and took home an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love.
She founded the popular lifestyle blog Goop, created a best-selling cookbook and starred in a PBS food and travel series called Spain… on the Road Again.
But it seems that none of this warrants consideration for the job of a food writer at Yahoo!.
According to Business Insider reporter Nicholas Carlson, Paltrow was overlooked for a role as contributing editor because did not graduate from college.
The CEO of Yahoo!, Marissa Mayer, “disapproved of the fact that Paltrow did not graduate college.”
In an excerpt of the new book Marissa Mayer and the Fight to Save Yahoo!, published in New York Times magazine, Carlson writes that Mayer “balked at hiring (Paltrow) as a contributing editor for Yahoo Food.”
“According to one executive, Mayer disapproved of the fact that Paltrow did not graduate college.”
It has led some to label the former Google executive, who graduated from Stanford in 1997, a higher education snob. Not to mention the questioning double standards it creates in an industry where the shining lights Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Mark Zuckerberg dropped out of Reed, Harvard, and Harvard respectively.
Niether Mayer nor Paltrow have commented on the report.
