Watch a man save a drowning koala on the Surf Coast

Poor little fella could’ve died!

A Great Victorian Bike Ride volunteer rescued a drowning koala in Apollo Bay yesterday.

Muzammil Patel had just arrived at the campsite next to the Barham River when he was alerted to a koala struggling to keep afloat in the river.

Despite calling wildlife rescue, he realised there wasn’t much time left so he waded in to rescue the little mite.

“There was no other option, I had to jump in and save the koala. It looked like it was going to drown,” Mr Patel said.

He had to drag the struggling koala by the ear in order to get him to safety.

“It felt beautiful. The lady who spotted him was crying after she saw the koala had been saved.”

The little guy scurried off into the trees after his lucky escape.

Well done, Muzammil!
