A Virgin Australia Boeing 737 has been forced to turn around and make an emergency landing.
The jet was travelling from Sydney to Darwin on Thursday when passengers reported smoke in the cabin.
A Virgin Australia spokesman told the AAP that the plane made a precautionary air return about half an hour into the flight, returning to Sydney airport at around 11am on Thursday.
Engineers are investigating the cause of the smoke.
