Police in Oregon were called to a campus of the technology company Intel, where the girl’s father reportedly works.
Before the father went to work he had taken the girl to a doctor’s appointment. He reportedly called emergency services from his work car at about 5 pm. Police arrived to find the baby’s mother performing CPR and the baby in cardiac arrest.
Responders performed CPR and took the girl to Tuality Community Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Hillsboro police are investigating the incident.
A non-profit group in the US says that more children are dying from heat stroke after being left in hot cars.
In 1990, about five children died each year. In 1995, that number had increased to 25. Now, an average of 38 children die in hot cars each year, according the website kidsandcars.org.
In Australia, the Victorian Coalition Government this year sought to double penalties for leaving children unattended, citing a jump in the number of calls for ambulances to attend children left in cars.
In 2013, nearly 1100 Victorian ambulances attended children left alone in cars, up by 200 from the previous year.
