Chubbuck then put a gun to her head and shot herself. She was rushed to hospital but died there.
More than 40 years later, Chubbuck’s extreme actions are the focus of two new films at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
Both films, Antonio Campos’ Christine and documentary Kate Plays Christine, explore what drove Chubbuck to end her life in such a dramatic fashion.
