Horrific footage has emerged of a tourist being bashed to death in just seconds while holidaying in Greece – allegedly over a selfie.

Bakari Henderson, 22, became embroiled in a heated exchange with customers and employees at a bar after asking to take a picture with the waitress, Greek police spokesman Theodore Chronopoulos told the Washington Post.

The American, who had recently graduated, was in the tourist village Laganas working on a photo shoot to launch a new clothing line with friends when footage revealed he was fatally beaten within just 30 seconds.

The fight started on a bar night devoted to Serbians, and Chronopoulos said a 33-year-old Serbian suspect got in an argument with the waitress over the picture.

He hit Henderson, who then smashed a beer bottle on a customer’s table, before the fight escalated to 10 – 15 men chasing Henderson outside the bar, Chronopoulos said.

A distressing 15 minute surveillance video posted on YouTube shows the graduate being beaten and kicked against a car before the men leave him on the road.

Chronopoulos confirmed the video, in which someone is shown administering CPR two minutes after the attack, was authentic.

However, Henderson’s friends’ account of what happened in the lead up to the video has crucial differences to the police account.

Daniel Brown, one of the three friends with Henderson that night, told ABC News that no one in their group was talking to anybody when the suspects initiated the fight.

Nine suspects have been arrested and will appear in court over the coming week for a judge to decide whether they should stay in police custody while they wait for their trial.

Henderson’s friends have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the funeral and to transport his body back to the U.S – at time of writing, the page had raised more than $56,000 of its $80k goal.

“The love for this young man overflows and this loss is unbearable for so many of us,” the page says.

“If you knew Bakari you knew he was driven in life and no goal is never set to high for him to achieve.

“He was just starting his life, so many dreams and aspirations not yet achieved.

“He was a blessing and brought a light of joy to everyone who encountered him.”
