Toddler killed after walking out of house and onto busy road

“Conner left this earth way too soon but is now playing in heaven.”

Conner Ian Lance Valvoi was killed after he walked out of his family home and onto a state highway while his mother was making school lunches.

The 18-month-old was hit by multiple vehicles on State Highway 25 at Waitakaruru in a rural area of New Zealand’s North Island.

A funeral notice said the “beautiful, bubbly” toddler has been tragically taken, leaving his father Dylan heartbroken and his mother Wendy devastated.

“Conner left this earth way too soon but is now playing in heaven.”

He is also being mourned by his three older siblings – Savannah, 11, Rilley, 7, and Kayleigh, 6.

“[He] was an inquisitive little fulla and always wanted to know why, say, that tree was green. He wouldn’t play with his toys, he would start pulling at (the tree), and he just obviously walked out the gate and got hit,” his grandfather told NZ Herald.

His godfather Willie Oostheysen has created a Givealittle page for the family “to help them move, live and grieve properly for the loss of their son.”

“There can never be enough time to mourn such a tragedy. However, they should be given time to do so properly and away from the place of incident – currently their home.

“They currently cannot afford to stay away from work or to move away to another home. They have funeral expenses, moving expenses and living expenses which all need to be met.”

The page also reveals that Conner’s parents had announced their engagement a week before their youngest child was killed.

Absolutely tragic.

Rest in peace, little man.
