A three-year-old girl is in a critical condition in Perth’s Princess Margaret Hospital after her father allegedly set fire to her and her two siblings on Friday night.
ABC reports the toddler is in a critical but stable condition, while her seven-year-old sister and six-year-old brother were discharged on Sunday morning.
It is believed the three-year-old was sleeping in her cot when her father, Edward John Herbert, doused her in a flammable liquid and set her alight.
Her brother and sister also allegedly had lighter fluid poured on them, but escaped without serious burns.
The little girl was reportedly saved by an off-duty policeman who lived in the street. After hearing the children’s mother’s screams, he ran into the house, found the little girl on fire and threw her into the bath.
Neighbours also helped restrain Herbert, who was allegedly brandishing a knife.
Herbert faced Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with one count of aggravated grievous bodily harm and two counts of attempted grievous bodily harm.
Herbert has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Tuesday.
