“Toad hunting” boy remains in critical condition after accident on Sunshine Coast

Thirteen-year-old Zeke Douglas was “toading” with his mates when he was accidentally struck in the back of a head by a golf club.

The teen suffered significant head injuries and remains in a critical condition in Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, where he was airlifted. The Courier-Mail reports that his family is clinging to hope that the young lad will pull through.

The teen was with a group of friends at Hazeltine Court, which runs along the boundary of the former Horton Park golf course at Maroochydore on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, when he was struck and knocked unconscious.

His mother was the first to arrive on the scene and she performed CPR before paramedics arrived.

The principal of Maroochydore State High School, where Zeke goes, Barry Dittman has released a statement saying that the community was in shock after the accident.

“The Maroochydore State High School community is deeply shocked by an incident involving a Year 7 student on the weekend,” he said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones during this time.”

Police have described the incident as an accident.
