Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed a suspicious house fire in Bonner, Canberra’s north, to come forward after officials discovered three bodies inside the home.
9NEWS has reported the bodies were one adult and two children, though names and ages have not yet been confirmed some reports suggest the adult body belonged to a woman. Police refuse to verify any information on the victims.
Neighbours are said to have reported the fire at 8:40 am on Monday morning; ACT Fire and Rescue were at the scene by 9 am and managed to get the blaze under control. The bodies, however, were not discovered until Monday afternoon during a second search of the property.
The Fire and Rescue team had released an earlier statement which said they found no bodies inside the house during the initial search.
Neighbours have said a woman lived in the home which was occasionally visited by two children.
A spokesman for ACT Police told reporters:
“The investigation into a suspicious fire which occurred at a residence in Bonner this morning (Monday) remains ongoing.
“Around 8.45am, ACT Policing and ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of smoke appearing from the roof of a residence in Peter Coppin Street, Bonner.
“Following a structural assessment, a full search has now been conducted and three people were located deceased inside the residence.”
