Can you hear the different frequencies in the video below? Well, according to AsapScience, you’re alive and not hearing impaired.
The hearing test video was posted to their educational YouTube channel, and tries to decipher how old your ears are based on what frequencies you can hear.
It starts off with an output of 8,000 hertz, increasing to 12,00hz, 15,000hz, 16,000hz, 17,000hz, 18,000hz and 19,000hz, while knocking down the age from 50 years to 20 years old.
The narrator says that “Unlike other organs, such as the liver or the skin, the inner ear does not have the ability to regenerate.”
In your ear, there are nerves called ‘hair cells’, which hear different frequencies and sends it to the brain.
As you get older, these hair cells start to disappear due to exposure to noise, which explains why you can only hear these certain frequencies.
