Selfies are quite a contentious issue.
While Kim Kardashian West has released an entire book of self-portraits, Cate Blanchett thinks they’re “pathetic”, and selfie sticks are being banned at landmarks and amusement parks around the world.
Wherever you fall on the issue, though, it’s safe to say that selfies have just been taken to a whole new level.
Gil Solano, who has been described as a “brave, brave man”, uploaded a picture of himself and his wife to photo-sharing site Imgur.
So far, so normal… except that his wife, Sarah, is actually in the process of giving birth in the snap.
And, to add insult to injury, Solano doesn’t seem to have used a single filter.
Solano, whose daughter Eva was born just moments after the photo was taken, said that “my wife wanted to make sure that someone took a picture of the expression on our faces when our daughter was born today.
“So I took one.”
The new dad originally took the picture to update his friends and family on Sarah’s progress.
When they loved it, Solano decided the rest of the internet should get a look too.
Luckily for him, Sarah gave her seal of approval before the selfie made its way to Imgur, where it has been viewed more than two million times in the last two days.
“I had been pushing for a few hours and Gil showed it to me to help take my mind off of things and make me laugh.
“I thought it was hilarious and told him he should send it to some of our friends,” she told Buzzfeed News.
Solano has been getting a kick out of the reactions to the photo, saying they were “hilarious”.
One person wrote “she’s going to kick your ass for this”, while another admired “your wife’s hair looks amazing for someone who is giving birth.”
“My favourite was reading the comments of everyone saying, ‘she’s going to kill you,’” he said to Buzzfeed.
“[Sarah] thinks it’s hilarious that people would expect her to respond like that when she thinks the picture itself is so funny.”
Sounds like Solano had a lucky escape.
Would you have been so forgiving?
