The best pictures from Australia’s biggest same-sex marriage rally

At least 20,000 people hit Melbourne streets to rally in support of marriage equality.

Over 20,000 people turned up this weekend to show their support and to rally for marriage equality in Melbourne’s Pride march, 2017.

Melbourne streets were filled with noticeably more glitter and rainbows this weekend as thousands turned out to show their support for the same sex-marriage ahead of the upcoming postal vote in Australia.

Celebrities were there to show their support and passion for the issue as well among them, comedian Joel Creasey and Australian Idol winner Natalie Gauci.

Organisers, Equal Love, are calling the event “Australia’s biggest pride rally.”

Speaking to the crowd, Equal Love campaigner Ali Hogg said:

“It’s incredible … there is an endless sea of people.”

“We need to keep fighting until every single person in this country is equal.”

The electoral commission has confirmed that over 90,000 (mostly young) people have registered to vote ahead of the postal plebiscite, highlighting the nation’s intense engagement with the subject.

We’ve rounded up some of the best photos from the weekend as people from all walks of life come together to call for equality.
