Teen sacked via text hours after suffering miscarriage

...you won’t be in the right frame of mind after your sad news. Sorry.

A pub manager is accused of firing a teenager girl after she called in sick to work claiming she had just suffered a miscarriage.

Former barmaid Amy Larman, 18, claims she was dismissed from her job at The Hollybush pub via text just hours after she had been told her unborn baby’s heart had stopped beating at 15 weeks, reports The Metro UK.

Ms Larman, of Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, says she texted her boss Adam Groves at 9pm on the evening of her scan, January 15, saying she couldn’t bring herself to come to work due to her heartbreaking news, claiming she’d been crying since noon that day.

After Ms Larman’s lengthy text Mr Groves responded: “No worries hun will call it day a day. Hope all goes well with everything xxx”

Taken aback Amy replied: “Does this mean I’ve lost my job? Omg Adam seriously upset.”

According to the Metro, who claims to have obtained copies of the texts, Mr Groves, 45, texted back: “I’ve been very fare from day 1 with you [sic]… I can’t run a business with staff that text me at 9pm at night saying that they can’t do there shift… Also you won’t be in the right frame of mind after your sad news. Sorry.”

Ms Larman, who told the tabloid she had only taken the job to earn moneth for the child said she was shocked at her former employers lack of sympathy.

“He knew I was pregnant – that’s why he put me on part-time hours,” said Ms Larman.

“You don’t treat your staff like that. I think it’s awful that I have had to go through this and when I’m down I get kicked.”

The teenager claims her parents were furious about their daughter being sacked.

“My dad wanted to rip his head off and I should have let him,” said Ms Larman. “He is rude and obnoxious.”

Amy added: “I sent my sister to go and get my wages. He had nothing to say – not even ‘I hope she is all right’. He just said: ‘She will get her £ 45.’”

Mr Groves denies any wrong doing and claims Ms Larman had been an unreliable worker previously.

“She texted me at 9pm at night saying she had trouble,” Mr grove told The Metro. “I have been very lenient with the girl. Just last week she signed a temporary contract because she failed the last one.”

However The Metro claims screenshots of the pair’s conversation provided by the teen do indicate she had told him about the circumstances of her miscarriage news.
