Olivia Inglis was killed at about 9.20am yesterday when her horse Coriolanus tripped on a jump during the cross country phase of the event, flipped in mid-air, and landed on top of her.
“Unfortunately, Olivia’s horse made a mistake and hit the obstacle which meant the horse fell and landed on her,” a Scone Horse Trials spokeswoman told the Sydney Morning Herald.
Paramedics fought to save Olivia but were unable to revive her.
The tragic accident has rocked the equestrian industry. The Inglis family is horse royalty, having been involved in racing, breeding and horse sales for 130 years, and she was a very popular and talented young rider.
The horse Coriolanus is in a stable condition after being treated by vets.
