Sydney-siders have woken up coughing and wheezing this morning thanks to 40 controlled hazard reduction burns taking place around the city and as far as the Blue Mountains.
A spokesman for the NSW Rural Fire Service said hundreds of volunteers as well as National Parks employees, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.
“Conditions are good,” he said, adding that the NSWRFS was taking advantage of the fine weather before rain scheduled on Sunday.
The smoke and haze has been so thick over the city that some building’s smoke alarms have been set off.
Earlier this morning the NSW Fire Service tweeted there would be reprieve:
“Smoke has settled due to lower temps overnight. Should clear throughout the morning.”
