A Sydney woman has left her two children at home and fled the country to join the Islamic State in Syria, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The newspaper reports Jasmina Milovanov left her two children, aged five and seven, with a baby sitter at the family home in Western Sydney while she went to pick up a new car.
Instead of picking up a new car the 26-year-old mother-of-two fled the country, later telling friends and her husband she was in “Sham” which is Arabic slang for Syria.
Milovanov text her husband – who was in Turkey at the time – on May 3 claiming she was in Syria while their children were being cared for at home.
However, she urged him to return home to take care of their children.
A former friend of Milovanov told The Tele they suspect Melbourne-based “notorious jihadi bride recruiter” Zehra Duman could have persuaded the mother-of-two to join the Islamic State.
The two were Facebook friends and Milovanov commented messages of support on Duman’s online posts.
News of another woman fleeing the country comes as The Australian reveals Abbott will announce a new frontbench position which will tackle Islamic radicalisation and increase communication between the government and Muslim leaders.
The Prime Minister is expected to appoint someone to the ministerial position in the next few days.
