An IT failure has caused chaos at Sydney Airport this morning with both the international and domestic terminals affected.
The IT issue means that passengers are not able to proceed through security, the delays have hit early morning travelers in the T1 and T2 terminals hard, leaving hundreds stranded.
At this stage no outbound passengers are leaving from Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 and flights are being held or rescheduled.
Passengers are being urged to avoid these terminals as the airport staff work to resolve the issue.
Officials are urging any passengers who planned to fly from Sydney airport today to call their airline and/or check their flight time and status online.
The airline supplied this link for anyone who requires up-to-date information about their flight.
Inbound flights and Qantas flights from T3 remain unaffected.
Many passengers have taken to social media to share their frustration.
“Sydney airport security screening isn’t working this morning, so every passenger for the next 2 hours’ worth of domestic flights is currently crushed into the check in area waiting for the gates to open,” tweeted one.
“Of course, nobody at an airport at 5:30am could possibly have had anywhere near enough sleep, so you can imagine the mood,” she continued.
“We’re all sitting on the floor. I’ve been in the same spot for 90 minutes and counting.”
The passenger tweeted she did finally get on a plane, as people began to trickle through security more than two hours after the ordeal has begun.
