A study has been done to rank swear words from least to most offensive.
Ofcom — the television regulator in the United Kingdom — has asked more than 200 people across the UK to look at a list of curse words and mark them as either: Mild, Medium, Strong or Strongest.
While you could guess where some of the words could go – others were looked upon as surprisingly offensive.
The results were:
Mild: Arse, bloody, bugger, cow, crap, damn, ginger, God, goddam, Jesus Christ, minger, sod-off, tart
Medium: Arsehole, balls, b-tch, bollocks, bullsh-t, feck, munter, pissed off, sh-t, son of a b-tch, t-ts
Strong: Bastard, beaver, c-ck, d-ck, d-ckhead, m-nge, pr-ck, p-ssy, sk-nk, sl-t, tw-t, w–ker, wh-re
Strongest: C-nt, f-ck, mother-cker
Surely ‘bastard’ isn’t that strong – here in Australia that’s a bloody compliment! At the end of the day it all comes down to the delivery, we guess.
