While most two year olds are still learning to string words together or mastering their ABCs, you could say that South African, Oratilwe Hlongwane, is a step ahead of the rest.

At two years old, little Oratilwe, or ‘DJ AJ’, is the world’s youngest DJ.

You might think he’s just pushing buttons and moving levers, but the little boy is drawing crowds for his remarkably well-put-together music. Oratilwe selects the songs on his laptop himself, and remixes them on his turntables, seemingly, without help.

His mother, Refiloe Marumo, says it all started when Oratilwe’s father bought him an iPad when he was one, onto which a DJ app was loaded. After getting bored of the children’s games and counting exercises, Oratilwe started to play on the app, which his mother says, was the beginning of his interest in DJing.

With nearly 25,000 Facebook followers, DJ AJ has been offered countless sponsorship deals and TV opportunities, but his parents are adamant that they are not going to profit off Oratilwe’s abilities.

“I’m not going to exploit my kid,” says father, Glen Hlongwane, clarifying that they do not allow him to play at clubs or parties.

A video of DJ AJ (above) shows him playing one of his tracks on his turntables.
