BREAKING: The 26-year-old mother of the baby girl found with her throat slit this morning has been arrested.
The mother, who has spent the day being questioned by police, was reportedly arrested at the scene.
She is currently still speaking to detectives, and the death is being treated as suspicious.
A six-week old baby girl has been found this morning in her Newcastle home with her throat slit, The Daily Telegraph has reported.
It currently being alleged that the attack was perpetrated by the baby’s mother, who is being questioned by police in Waratah.
Police and ambulances arrived on the scene this morning around 9am after being alerted by the mother’s sister-in-law.
Upon arrival, emergency services confirmed the baby’s death.
It is alleged that the baby’s father was also at the scene.
The Daily Telegraph is reporting that the mother is expected to undergo psychiatric assessment at a later date.
