Two sisters have been sentenced to be raped and paraded through their home town naked to punish their brother for his affair with a married woman.
The two girls – one of whom is just 15 – were sentenced by a council of elders in the poor farming village of Sankrot in India’s Uttar Pradesh regio after their brother’s relationship with a married woman of a higher social caste was revealed.
Amnesty International is now fighting to save the girls from their fate, launching a petition at the weekend which has already garnered more than 100,000 signatures.
The elders who handed down the punishment are now facing arrest.
