School apologises over ‘dead dancing cats’ video

A US school has come under fire for letting students create a 'dance' using dead cats.

In strange and disturbing news, a school in Oklahoma has been forced to apologise after a video of students using dead cats to perform a sickening ‘dance’ has surfaced.

In the video, students can be seen holding up the cats and using them as puppets to ‘dance’, whilst singing a cat food commercial song. The cats were supposed to be used as specimens for dissecting in the students’ biology class.

Although the video was filmed in 2013, it has recently garnered international attention, after it was shared by animal rights organisation PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Since then, the school has been faced with outrage.

The school’s principal, Justin Hunt, has released a statement saying the school will be “re-examining” the classroom and the teacher involved.

“Harding Charter Preparatory High School does not condone the conduct of the students nor does it accept such conduct as appropriate in any setting,” read the statement, “We agree that animals should be treated and handled with respect and dignity, a standard that was not upheld in this instance.”

“We are re-examining our classroom instruction to ensure we meet the high standards to which we hold ourselves.”

The statement can be read in full on the school’s website.
