A young Saudi woman has reportedly been arrested after she disguised herself as a man to sneak into a stadium to watch a football match in the city of Jeddah.
While most aspects of daily life involve segregation of some kind, Football stadiums in the Saudi kingdom have very strict male only policies.
The woman reportedly dodged stadium security by buying her ticket online and wore a baseball cap and dark hoodie to blend into the crowd.
According to the Gulf News a spokesperson for the police in the Makkah Region, Aati Al Qarshi, said that the woman was arrested on Friday as she was matching the match between Shabab and Al Ittihad at the Jawhara Stadium.
Video footage has emerged and widely shared on social media which reportedly shows what appears to be a young woman sitting alone in the bleachers, said to be the young lady in question.
While football is very popular in Saudi Arabia special permissions were needed in November during the Asian Champions League, when Western Sydney Wanderers beat Al Hilal, to allow foreign women to watch the matches in which their home teams were playing.
