Saudi Arabia to reopen case of woman due to be stoned to death

A Saudi court has agreed to reopen a case of a woman who was sentenced to death by stoning after worldwide protests.

A Saudi court has agreed to reopen the case of a Sri Lankan woman who was due to be stoned to death for adultery, after a worldwide outcry.

The BBC reports that Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Harsha de Silva, told parliament that an appeals court has decided to hear the case again.

“We see this as a victory,” he said.

The 45 year old woman, who has two small children, had been working as a maid in Saudi Arabia.

She was sentenced to death in August, after being convicted of adultery with a Sri Lankan man, who was sentenced to 100 lashes.
