The controversial former deputy mayor of Auburn was arrested last night after a car crash which led to dangerous driving charges as well as two counts of violating an AVO.

A witness told Channel Nine he was woken up by the loud crash in Sydney suburb Kingsgrove last night where Mehajer was involved in a collision.

“There was a guy being very aggressive in the car; cursing, swearing, saying he was going to hurt somebody,” he said.

Last week, Mehajer told the court he and Learmonth were still happily married.

“She wants to get out of the media and acts like she’s not with me but she is with me,” he said. “We are still talking.”

The car crash is Mehajer’s second this year. The first of which occured on his way to a court hearing and sparked a police investigation.

The arrest tops off an intense week for the Mehajer family. Aisha Mehajer, Salim’s sister, married Hassan Sam Sayour, the nephew of notorious Sydney nightclub identity John Ibrahim on Saturday.

What should have been a joyous day was marred by Ibrahim’s bodyguard Semi “Tongan Sam” Ngata being shot in the back the night before in what was allegedly an attempt to stop the wedding.

Police described the shooting as “certainly brazen. We believe that the attack is certainly not random.”

The wedding went ahead in Ibrahim’s mother’s backyard appearing to be the antithesis of Mehajer’s over the top wedding in 2015.

Salim Mehajer is expected to face court later today over the charges.
