Ronda Rousey’s reign ends with brutal knockout in Melbourne fight

Holly Holm took over the reins from UFC champion Ronda Rousey on the weekend.

One of the biggest stars in female sport, Ronda Rousey, was defeated during her much-hyped cage fight in Melbourne on the weekend.

Ronda was knocked out by Holly Holm in front of a record crowd at the UFC 193 cage fight on Sunday.

News Ltd reports that Holm ‘landed a head kick and then followed it up with punches as Rousey fell to the mat to knock the champ out’.

“This is the biggest upset in the history of MMA,” commentator Joe Rogan said.

Holm, a former champion boxer, becomes the second female bantamweight champion in UFC history, halting Rousey’s run of six consecutive title defences.

“I had so much love and support, I thought ‘how could I not do this?’” Holm said. “This team right here is priceless.”

Ronda is said to be depressed. It’s not clear when she’ll get a re-match.
