The book will be called My Story and features a striking cover of white and grey.
The former Prime Minister is pictured wearing a white outfit and feminine jewellery, hinting at the factor that sets this political memoir apart from others – it is that of Australia’s first female prime minister.
Julia Gillard described writing the book as “exhilarating and cathartic,” posing tantalising prospects for its contents.
“Sometimes the words flowed quickly and easily. On other occasions, days of reflection were needed to work through memories of difficult times and the resilience required during them.
“In My Story, I describe what it was really like to be prime minister, what happened and why it matters for our nation.”
At a special event hosted by Penguin Random House, Christine Lagarde, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund and one of the world’s most powerful women, appeared in a video message paying tribute to Julia Gillard’s time as Australian Prime Minister, in particular her ability to navigate the country through difficult times, and said that her lasting legacy will be as a role model to girls around the world.
The memoir will be published on October 1 2014.
