Police warn: “Stick to the road rules or we’ll tell Joffery”

Policing is usually serious business but the Queensland police are apparently keen on having a laugh while they enforce the law.

The Queensland Police Service have used the power of pop culture and social media to send an important message for drivers tonight.

On their Facebook page the boys and girls in blue have warned drivers that despite Game of Thrones premiering on Monday night that will not be a valid excuse to speed home.

“Yes, we know the new season of Game of Thornes starts today. Yes, we’re a bit excited. No, the doesn;t mean you can rush home to watch it. Stick to the road rules of we’ll tell Joffery.”

The status, which was shared on Monday morning, has garnered more than 68,000 likes and 4,800 shares as well as an influx of GOT fans offering praise filled comments for the funny but important post.

One user commented: “Is that a sense of humour?!?! Outstanding!!!”

And another added: “This is awesome policing!!! Well done Queensland Police force in [sic] yet another hilariously witty post !!! ps GOT all the way !!!!!”

Nowadays the popularity of social media has affected every area of society and law enforcement is no different.

According to a 2013 social media study from the International Association of Chiefs of Police in the US, 96 per cent of police departments admitted to using social media in some capacity, more than 80 per cent say it has helped them solve crimes and 73 per cent of agencies said it helped improve police-community relationships in their jurisdiction.
