QLD dad not sorry for letting 5yo son do burnouts

When your five-year-old says... Dad, can I do a burnout? Sure son, no worries.

If you were raised in Australia it’s probably likely that growing up you sat on your parent’s lap and pretended to steer the car for a minute.

But one Queensland dad has caused outrage by taking it a step further by allowing his 5-year-old son to steer solo and do burnouts and then bragging about the whole thing on Facebook.

Alex Dobson shared video footage of his son Riley slamming his foot on the accelerator in his driveway at their Queensland home earlier this week.

By this morning the clip had amassed more than two million views, and 30,000 shares.

According to the Courier Mail the rev-head dad’s initial post was captioned: “When your five-year-old says… Dad, can I do a burnout? Sure son, no worries.”

He added: “Remember a car addiction stops a drug addiction. Private driveway.”

Unfortunately for Dobson the video has caught the eye of the authorities and he’s now being investigated by local police who are seeing if there are grounds to lay charges.

In an interview with 9 News Dobson said he didn’t really see a problem in allowing his son to get behind the wheel to perform such a dangerous manoeuvre but was regretting putting the video online because of the investigation that’s now underway.

When asked if he regretted his decision he said: “I am beginning to, only because of how far it’s gone and the consequences.”

And when asked if he thought it was a risky to put a child in that position, the dad said: “Definitely not, no way would I ever put my child’s life at risk”.

The family car has reportedly been seized and child protection services are looking into the matter.
