The 99-year-old war widow, who passed away on April 2nd after a bout of pneumonia, was known not only for stealing the heart of a Prince – but that of the nation.

The service was held at St Philip’s Anglican Church in the CBD, the same place where she married her first husband, Lieutenant Albert Chowne, a Victoria’s Cross recipient.

Attended by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Daphne’s daughter Michelle Haywood led the service with touching tributes to her late mother.

“My mum certainly was always just my mum but somehow she became like a mum and a nanna to so many people,” Ms Haywood said during her address.

Days before her tragic passing, Daphne had received a gorgeous letter from Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan on her 99th birthday, congratulating her on reaching such an incredible milestone.

“Dear Daphne, my wife and I send our warmest wishes to you on the occasion of your 99th birthday on Friday,” the card read.

“We hope you have a wonderful celebration surrounded by family and friends and that you’ve managed to escape hospital.

During Harry and Meghan’s royal tour in Australia last year, the father-to-be got the chance to introduce his new bride to Daphne.

The couple shared an adorable moment together, with the pair both crouching down to reach Daphne in her wheelchair.

“I wished them well with the baby on the way and said this is what Harry has been waiting for for so long… I got a cuddle too,” she said at the time.
