Primary school students banned from hugging

A primary school has banned its students from hugging each other and instead, they’re being encouraged to find other ways to show affection.

“It really comes back to not everyone is comfortable in being hugged,” John Grant, principal at Geelong’s St Patricks Primary School, told Herald Sun(http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/geelong-west-primary-school-bans-hugging-in-favour-of-caution/news-story/b476a45a42fe75db30cf4faff9c19a28|target=”_blank”).

Now, teachers are encouraging students to show their affection in different ways like giving high fives and “verbal affirmations.”

While “nothing in particular” had caused the ban to be brought into place, it will not carry any punishment.

“In this current day and age, we are really conscious about protecting kids and teaching them from a young age that you have to be cautious,” Mr Grant said.
