Yes, we are serious.

Just days after placing his hand on two Bibles and taking the oath of office, the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, has made good on his election-campaign promise, cracking down on the US’ immigration laws.

Along with restricting refugees’ access to the US, as well as suspending visas for citizens of countries including Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Sudan, President Trump has just signed directives to build a wall along the Mexican-US border.

As reported by 7News, Trump signed two executive orders to build a 3200-metre-long wall to divide Mexico and the US, using federal grant money from “sanctuary” states that harbour illegal immigrants.

Upon signing the orders, Trump said: “I believe the steps we will take starting right now will improve the safety in both of our countries. A nation without borders is not a nation.”

This comes four days after Trump axed trade agreements between Australia and the US.

Having voiced his interest in severing an agreement tying countries including Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the US into a free-trade partnership in November last year, the newly sworn-in President has done exactly that.

According to News.com.au, President Trump signed an “executive order”, which pulls the US out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

As he signed the order in the White House on Monday, January 23, he said, “Everyone knows what that means, right?”

“We’ve been talking about this for a long time … It’s a great thing for the American worker.”
