Homicide Squad detectives have today released new CCTV footage in the hope of solving the case of slain woman Prabha Arun Kumar.
The 41-year-old was brutally attacked while walking home from work in March from Paramatta station.
Tragically, the mother of one was just metres from her home and was on the phone to her husband, who lives in India with the couple’s 10-year-old daughter.
Kumar was the breadwinner for the family.
Emergency services were called to the scene when Arvand Amirian found Kumar severely injured, having lost a large amount of blood. She appeared to have been stabbed with a knife.
The 41-year-old died at Westmead Hospital that evening and detectives have not yet found the attacker.
On her way home, Kumar walked out of Parramatta station, along Argyle Street, then Park Parade, then along a golf course footpath.
Footage released today shows a person walking through Parramatta Golf Course.
“Prabha’s death has affected a lot of people, including her family in India and the wider Australian community. These people need closure and we are reliant on the public’s help to allow us to bring that to them,” said Detective Acting Inspector Ritchie Sim.
“The person in the footage is one person who we have not been able to identify so far. While it’s not the best footage, we are hoping it might prompt someone’s memory.”
“Considering the nature of the investigation and because it is Prabha’s home town, it is an obvious line of inquiry. It’s important we don’t speculate but we need to exhaust every line of inquiry.”
A Memorial service for Kumar is set to be held on Sunday November 22. It’s the weekend of her birthday.
