Police officer comforts child as his mum is trapped underneath car

In the midst of freeing a pregnant mother from underneath her car, this amazing police officer took the time to comfort and distract her three year son.

A police officer in Ferntree Gully has been praised as a hero after this photo of him distracting a young boy whilst his co-workers saved his mum went viral.

The event unfolded in outer Victoria, when a pregnant mother frantically attempted to stop her car, containing her son, from rolling down her steep driveway.

In her effort, which did indeed stop the vehicle, the woman was trapped underneath the car, breaking her leg and causing several other injuries.

As emergency services arrived on the scene at around 11.20am on Tuesday, officers were able to free her three-year-son from the car and began working on freeing her as well.

Whilst the firefighters worked on lifting the car, without injuring the woman or her unborn baby, a local police officer commandeered a cuddly firefighter teddy to distract the boy.

Playing on the ground away from the scene, the police officer sat with the boy, playing with him and talking to him for around 45 minutes, until his mum was freed.

Both mum and son were then airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Both are in a stable condition, with the little boy’s unborn sibling unharmed.
