Police investigate death of five-month-old baby at day care centre

Police have discovered children locked in rooms at a Moorooka day care centre after the death of a five-month-old baby.

A police investigation into the death of a baby at a family day care has found that some children have been locked in rooms at the Moorooka house.

Paramedics could not revive the five-month-old boy at the Wallace Street address in Brisbane’s south.

Police said that while initial reports suggested the death was not suspicious, they would be looking into the conditions of the house and how the other children were being cared for.

Inspector Steve Flori said that when officers arrived at the day care centre, they found locked doors.

“When those doors have been opened, they’ve actually found children in some of the rooms,” he said.

There were also problems contacting parents of other children at the centre, according to a police spokesperson, as there were no records for the children’s next of kin as well as language barriers.

Test results on the baby are due later today.
