Police in Germany have arrested a man dubbed the “marzipan blackmailer” after he allegedly poisoned candy at a school in the country’s north which was part of a wider multi-million dollar supermarket blackmail plan.
Authorities in the north German city of Kiel made the arrest on Monday after the 38-year-old man reportedly distributed the tainted sweets at a school last week and threatened to do it again if supermarket chain Coops didn’t pay up, reports Deutsche Presse Agentur.
The poisoned marzipan hearts were reviewed by experts who said that the substance they were contaminated with was not life threatening but could trigger serious health problems.
