The curious case of the Prime Minister and the digitally manipulated image.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has come under fire for publishing a “Photoshopped” image of himself on the official Downing Street Facebook page.

The Daily Mirror claims the PM’s office crudely manipulated an image originally posted in November 2013 to add a red poppy for Remembrance Day, which is celebrated on November 11.

The image angered eagle-eyed Facebook fans, who immediately jumped online to vent their fury.

“Is photoshopping an unrealistic looking poppy onto a profile pic really respecting the country’s fallen?” one wrote.

Another added: “That poppy is as fake as your care for ‘the strivers who get up at 8am every day and work and provide’.”

A spokesman for Mr Cameron said the offending image had been removed, saying: “It was an oversight.”

Britons take Remembrance Day very seriously. A poll of more than 500 people on the Daily Mirror’s website revealed 78 per cent of respondents found the Photoshopped poppy “offensive”.
