Update:
St Vincent’s Hospital spokesperson David Faktor confirmed that Hughes was ventilated and intubated at the scene and has since gone into surgery.
Mr Faktor confirmed that Hughes had suffered a head injury.
Hughes arrived by road ambulance and is “in the best of hands,” said Mr Faktor.
Officials say Mr Hughes is currently surrounded by his loved ones.

Hughes was injured earlier today when he was struck in the head by a cricket ball during at a Sheffield Shield match between New South Wales and South Australia at the SCG.
Officials say the game has since been abandoned.
According to Sky News the Hughes family released a statement confirming the cricketer is undergoing surgery and they are unlikely to know the outcome of that surgery for a further 24-48 hours.

The 25-year-old was struck by a bouncer on delivery by New South Wales bowler Sean Abbott.
Hughes was retired for 63 and recieved CPR before being stretchered from the field via medicab.
There was speculation earlier this week that Hughes was on standby for Capitan Michael Clarke for Australia’s first test against India due to start on December 4.
