First there was the Q&A verbal boxing match between Yassmin Abdel-Magied and Jacqui Lambie that blasted our TV sets on Monday, February 13.
Now the ABC, who employ Ms Abdel-Magied, are being urged to sack the Muslim youth activist, with ALTCON News kicking off a petition for the tax-paid broadcaster to “reassure the tax-paying public that they condemn her rhetoric and that Australians obey one set of laws” – not Sharia law.
“Abdul-Magied has publicly stood by her comments and released a video blatantly lying to the public about the merits of Sharia Law and the oppressive impact it has on non-muslim groups, homosexuals and women,” the change.org petition reads.
“As Yassmin Abdul-Magied made these comments on the tax payer funded QandA program, and as she is a regularly paid commentator on the tax payer funded network, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation needs to reassure the tax paying public that they condemn her rhetoric and that Australians obey one set of laws, that no religious law is higher than the law of the land and that her blatant lies about this law will not be tolerated or funded by the Australian tax payers.”
This comes after Tony Abbott publicly backed Lambie, saying Ms Abdel-Magied must’ve been “blindfolded” during her speaking tour through Sudan, the UAE and Saudi Arabia if she thinks Islam is “the most feminist religion”.
“If she’s right that ‘Islam is a feminist religion’, how come such terrible things are done to women in its name?” Abbott said.
The political plot thickens…
