Parents of a toddler who devastatingly drowned while at a Perth family day care centre have called for a blanket ban on all pools at similar facilities.
Since 2012, 16 toddlers have died in pools in Western Australia alone and the family’s lawyer, John Hammond, says the death could have been avoided had a pool simply not been there in the first place.
“Lachlan died as a result of an event which we say was entirely preventable,” Mr Hammond told the court.

When the baby wouldn’t settle, she left Lachlan in the backyard for seven minutes to try calm the crying baby.
As soon as she found Lachlan she began CPR and ran to a neighbour’s house to ask them to call an ambulance because she couldn’t find her phone.
Lachlan passed away the next day in hospital.
His family is pushing for Western Australia to take after states like NSW who have already put a total ban in place.
